Governor Baker has just extended the Stay-at-Home Advisory until May 18. Last week we learned that school would not resume for the rest of the academic year. News accounts report that colleges are preparing for the possibility of an online fall semester. These are all indications that we will be confronting this pandemic for some time.
Are you are old enough to remember accessing emails via a dial-up modems? When I would check my AOL account the telephone was out of service! In those days few of us imagined that today we’d have Wi-Fi access, multiple devices, and be able to stream movies and television shows. An effect of the rapid advancement of technology on multiple fronts is that we don’t like to wait. We call, or text, ahead to save time when picking up a meal. An Uber or Lyft ride arrives just moments after we request it. The coronavirus is re-acquainting us with the notion of waiting.
