Although we are still in the midst of winter, the weather does not affect the purchase of lots
or columbarium niches at the cemetery. In fact, our sales continue, and inquiries abound.
If you are interested in learning more about the burial options at Saint Mary’s,
please call Barbara at 781-828-0090 or email bmckenney@cantoncatholic.org.

St. Mary Cemetery Staff is here to help facilitate your decision.
If you are considering a pre-need purchase, it will provide peace of mind to you and your family.

Cremation Burial

Picture
When considering cremation, it is important to know what your interment choices are. Hopefully, this information will help you make a meaningful decision that is right for you and your loved ones.

At Saint Mary Cemetery, we offer two options for burial of cremations.

Both are good options for the proper burial of a loved one’s cremains.

You may choose a traditional in-ground interment by purchasing the right to one or more lots. Each single lot at St. Mary Cemetery may house two cremation burials. Once the lot rights are purchased, subsequent burials will incur interment fees upon the grave opening.

We also offer interment niches in one of our three columbarium walls. Each niche will hold one or two cremation urns. The columbarium option has an all-inclusive fee which is paid at the time that the purchase takes place. There is a nominal charge for inscription.

History

Picture
St. Mary's Cemetery was established in 1847. The Friends of Irish Research, a local group, worked on a historical project to document all the names of those laid to rest in the oldest sections of our cemetery. This undertaking began in the fall of 1993 and was completed twenty-one years later in 2014. It was a collective effort by volunteers from various organizations such as The Irish Ancestral Research Association, the Canton Historical Society, the Stoughton Historical Society, and individuals from the towns of Canton, Sharon, and Stoughton.

We are very grateful for their effort, as we are the benefactors of their diligence. The documents they created have allowed St. Mary Cemetery Staff to locate burial lot information that otherwise may have been difficult to find because of the age of the records. This is especially helpful for relatives who wish to inter additional family members in old family plots.
 .
Some of our current parishioners and community members may be aware of this project and may have even been a part of it. Our thanks and gratitude go out to all who were involved.

Often times people who enjoy history search for places to witness the past. These places may lead us near and far. We are fortunate to have a rich history right here at our Old St. Mary Cemetery in Canton. Enjoy it!
