Office of Faith Formation

Welcome to Faith Formation

Welcome to Faith Formation at St. Oscar Romero Parish! We are grateful for the opportunity to walk with your family as your child grows in faith and in relationship with Jesus.

Faith begins at home and grows throughout a lifetime. From a child's earliest experiences of prayer, through First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, the years of continued faith formation, and preparation for Confirmation, every year is an important part of the journey.

Our Faith Formation program serves children in Grades 1–8, providing age-appropriate opportunities to learn about Scripture, prayer, the Mass, the sacraments, and the teachings and traditions of our Catholic faith. Just as importantly, we want our children to discover what it means to know Jesus, to recognize God's presence in their everyday lives, and to understand that they have a place in our parish community.

Parents & Parish — Partners in Faith

Parents are the first and most important teachers of faith for their children. Our role as a parish is to support you in that responsibility—to provide resources, encouragement, opportunities, and a community in which your family's faith can continue to grow.

Faith Formation is more than what happens in the classroom. Sunday Mass, family prayer, receiving the sacraments, serving others, and participating in the life of the parish all help children experience what it means to live their Catholic faith.

Growing in Faith, Year by Year

Each year of Faith Formation builds upon the year before it. Grades 1–6 provide a strong foundation and include preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. In Grades 7 and 8, young people enter a two-year period of preparation for Confirmation, receiving the Sacrament in the spring of Grade 8.

Our hope is not simply to prepare children to receive sacraments, but to help them develop a faith they will carry with them long after they leave the classroom.

We look forward to walking with your family—every year, every step.

The Religious Education Program relies on volunteers.

PLEASE CONSIDER BEING A RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHER

The program relies on volunteers to teach the Religious Education classes.

You do not need any special skills or abilities, just the willingness to share your faith with the children of our parish. We provide materials and support to help you with class management, lesson planning, etc. Whether you are a parent, a grandparent, a high school or college student, or a parishioner looking to encourage the youth of the parish in their faith, we want to talk to you. Thank you in advance for considering to volunteer. Please reach out to Nancy Cunniff at ncunniff@cantoncatholic.org or Erin Sullivan at erin@cantoncatholic.org
